Paul Ryan Praises Speaker Mike Johnson

(IntegrityTimes.com) – Former House Speaker Paul Ryan joined a chorus of establishment Republicans who praised current House Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to team up with the Democrats to push through President Biden’s agenda.

Ryan told one media outlet that Johnson behaved as a “statesman,” and that he knew the political risk involved but made the move “for the greater good” when he rammed through $60 billion more in aid for Ukraine. Ryan is highly influential in the right-leaning mainstream media as a board member of Fox Corporation, serving as chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. His position empowers him to dictate the overall direction the corporation wishes to endorse regarding a broad range of political topics.

Former Vice President Mike Pence repeatedly praised Speaker Johnson on X, formerly Twitter, after the bill was passed. He shared at least two media interviews where he applauded Johnson for explaining why America should fund Ukraine. Pence was met with a massive number of comments from Republicans who opposed the bill. Several users pointed out that Congress and Pence were completely disregarding the needs of the American people but had no problem continuing to fund endless wars. Others told him to simply end his political career because no one was interested in anything he had to say. Notably, former Republican presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote a lengthy response to Pence’s video interview on the Paul Ryan-controlled outlet.

Meanwhile, a growing number of Republicans have called for Johnson’s ouster, but if a motion to vacate was brought to the floor, Democrats could save him from removal since he conceded on nearly every demand of the Biden administration thus far. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed the motion to vacate back in March, but the decision to send billions more to Ukraine prompted Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., to co-sponsor the measure.
