(IntegrityTimes.com) – This year Easter Sunday fell on March 31, but since President Biden first came into office in 2021, the White House also celebrates The Transgender Day of Visibility every March 31.
The annual awareness event was started in 2009 by Rachel Crandall Crocker, a psychotherapist and executive director of Transgender Michigan which is a transgender advocacy group. There are roughly 26 internationally recognized LGBT+ themed holidays, as well as country-specific ones which include 11 additional ones in the U.S. alone. Some of these are only for a day, while others last a week or, in the case of Pride, an entire month.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is among many conservatives and Christians who have criticized Biden for seeming to prioritize an LGBTQ+ holiday on one of the relatively few high Christian holy days that is still observed. Johnson also expressed doubt, both on the social media platform X and on Fox News, that the president even understood the Transgender Day of Visibility proclamation he was signing. However, in a somewhat unclear response, Biden has indicated that he did not choose the date to coincide with Easter.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates has been pushing back against the suggestion that Biden chose identity politics over his own Catholic faith, saying that Biden celebrates Easter with his family and that any criticism of the president on this issue is being divisive. Biden is only the second U.S. president to be Catholic and has faced strong disapproval from more conservative Catholics and other Christians for his progressive stances on LGBTQ+ issues and abortion.
Over the weekend the Biden signed the Transgender Day of Visibility proclamation, enjoyed the annual Easter event, and put out a public statement honoring controversial Mexican socialist leader César Chávez. Many Christians across the political spectrum believe the Biden administration has been disrespectful and even occasionally hostile to their faith. Former president Trump’s campaign has even suggested that the nation’s Christians are owed an apology from Biden.
