(IntegrityTimes.com) – In the wake of the June 27 presidential debate there are many people on both sides of the political divide wondering about President Biden’s fitness for the demanding role of commander-in-chief.
Recently, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has joined the public discussion by expressing concerns about national security in light of Biden’s apparent cognitive issues. Democrats are understandably focused on winning the upcoming election, but Graham is more worried about Biden’s ability to effectively lead during the next few months. There are even some Democrats who have called for the President to step aside for a different Democrat presidential candidate in 2024.
Graham is not alone in suggesting that Biden should take a cognitive test, but he also advocates for regular neurological exams for anyone who is in the presidential line of succession. When he was asked if former President Donald Trump should also take a cognitive test, Graham said yes, adding that it should be a standard procedure for all presidential candidates. Indicating that his assertion was not age-related bias, he cited the example of his predecessor, Senator Strom Thurmond. He commented that although Thurmond was 100 years old, he was a vigorous man and still active in his role.
The South Carolina Senator also voiced his concerns about how the country’s enemies and allies may see President Biden and his leadership. He commented that this is a “wake-up call for the country” adding that it is unacceptable that Biden has not taken a competency test given increasing public concern. With wars raging, inflation-related hardships hitting everyday people, drug epidemics and out of control immigration, it may be a dangerous time for America to have a potentially compromised leader.
President Biden addressed the issue in his first televised interview since the debate. He says that he undergoes daily evaluations through his work and added that he is continuously monitored by top medical professionals. The president offers the public the reassurance that his medical staff has told him that he’s good and doesn’t need them. However, the interview does not seem to have silenced critics who still have doubts. Whether Biden agrees to further testing, Senator Graham may be just the first of many to call for regular cognitive testing for all those who may lead America in the future.
