United Pilot Caught in Pre-Takeoff Repair Video

(IntegrityTimes.com) – A passenger on a United Airlines flight went viral after sharing an Instagram story while awaiting takeoff on April 7. The video showed what appeared to be a pilot replacing a window in the airplane, with the user named Kristin asking her followers, “Is this our pilot?” She then asked, “Is this normal?” She reported later that her flight had landed safely, and the window did not blow out of the plane. The video was shared by TMZ, which thrust the incident into the public eye.

The New York Post reached out to United Airlines and received a response explaining what the pilot was doing. The email said that the pilot was holding a plastic bezel that was only “cosmetic and not required for the safe operation of the aircraft.” Although it was unclear what kind of aircraft was involved, passengers are on high alert following several incidents involving Boeing airplanes.

Back in January, an Alaska Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in Portland after the door plug of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 blew out of the side of the airplane. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident led to more discoveries of loose bolts on other Boeing planes. Additionally, the company underwent a leadership shakeup after the incident, which could be indicative of mismanagement.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating Boeing once again after one of its engineers blew the whistle on problems with the company’s 787 Dreamliner jets. Sam Salehpour outlined his concerns in documents submitted to the FAA, which included how the company took shortcuts during the manufacturing process. He claimed that the fuselage could come apart during flight because it was not put together correctly. The whistleblower worked for Boeing for more than 10 years and was transferred to work on the Boeing 777 after reporting his concerns about the Dreamliner to his superiors. He found assembly issues with that aircraft as well.
