Revocation of Secret Service Protection for Mayorkas
Donald Trump rescinded Secret Service protection for Alejandro Mayorkas, according to March 24 reports. The Secret Service confirmed the decision to news outlets following the issuance of an executive memorandum. “Per executive memorandum of the President, the protective detail for former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been discontinued,” said a Secret Service spokesperson in a statement to The New York Post.
If not for Trump’s directive, Mayorkas would have continued to enjoy these security benefits until mid-July. However, the Secret Service could not provide further details, with the spokesperson saying, “To ensure the integrity of our operations, we cannot comment on the specifics of our protective means and methods.”

Other Revocations
The revocation came about a week after Trump’s critique of the security resources allocated to Hunter Biden. “There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous!” Trump remarked on social media, questioning the justification behind the extensive protection costs for individuals no longer serving or directly related to a current administration. Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden both had their security details canceled.
Presidents and their spouses enjoy lifelong protection after leaving office, a stipulation governed by long-standing security guidelines. However, children of presidents typically lose their security once they turn 16. Both Trump and Biden previously extended their children’s protections for six months post-administration.
Mayorkas is not the only former official who had his security detail revoked recently. Others, such as Anthony Fauci, also recently lost their protections on Trump’s directive. In addition, he has slashed protections for ex-national security adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo since returning to office.
