(IntegrityTimes.com) – America is experiencing a never-before-seen surge in illegal aliens crossing the border, and the federal government is doing almost nothing about it. Border towns in Texas, Arizona, and California have long complained about the number of illegal immigrants. As these immigrants spread, cities throughout the continental United States are facing the financial and human costs that used to be confined to states near the southern border.
Many of them are coming in on flights that appear to be arranged for them by the Biden administration. ‘
But “traditional” crossing points are also feeling the squeeze. On May 2 about two dozen apparent illegal aliens pulled up to a dock at Newport Beach, California. Online video shows the group climbing off the boat and running away from the marina, disappearing into the surrounding neighborhood.
Will O’Neill, Newport Beach’s mayor, sounded off about it on the social media platform X. He wrote that he’s seen the video and has alerted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to “find out how we can do better.”
It is not clear exactly what city officials in California can do. The state has designated itself a “sanctuary state,” meaning that it will not cooperate with federal immigration authorities to detain or expel aliens. California law bars police and other law enforcement in the state from arresting or holding illegal aliens.
The problem is only getting worse. According to Don Barnes, Sheriff for Orange County, smuggling people in by sea has increased by 140 percent between 2020 and 2024. The number of aliens caught in 2020 was 308. This year so far, 736 have been found.
O’Neill said the border crisis is “serious, lawless, and dangerous.” Neither Sacramento nor Washington, D.C. have helped, he said, in fact higher level officials have made the problem worse. Every city is now a “border city,” O’Neill said.
Just a few weeks ago, another boat laden with dozens of illegal aliens docked at a beach in Carlsbad about one hour south of Newport Beach.
