Actor Alan Scarfe Dead At 77

(IntegrityTimes.com) – Star of both stage and screen, actor Alan Scarfe died on April 28, 2024, at the age of 77. He had suffered from colon cancer for some time. Scarfe was well-known for his roles in various science fiction series, as well as roles in popular films like Lethal Weapon 3. He was born in Harpenden, England in 1946, although he died a Canadian citizen. He is survived by his children, Jonathan and Tosia, two grandchildren and one brother.

While many people knew of Scarfe from his roles on television or film, he was a much-lauded Shakespearean actor as well. He studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art from 1964-66. He was a fixture in the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada, starring in various productions for eight seasons in the 1970s. In an interview in 2007 he said he’d always aspired to be a “a great classical actor” He achieved wild success in that. Over the course of his long theater career, he took on such famous roles as King Lear, Hamlet, Othello, Iago, Cassius, Brutus, Petruchio, Cyrano de Bergerac, Prospero, and Doctor Faustus.

Scarfe met his wife while working at the Stratford Festival in Canada. She was known for acting roles in various Star Trek series, where she is credited under her maiden name, Barbara March. She died in August of 2019 at the age of 78. Their daughter Tosia and her husband Austin lived with and cared for Alan until his death. Tosia is a composer and music educator who founded Scarfe Music. Scarfe’s son Jonathan is a producer and actor best known for his role as Chase Carter on the medical television drama ER.

Many fans of Alan Scarfe know him from his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation or the time-traveling television series Seven Days. Theater enthusiasts know him from his many roles on the stage. Some may be aware of his writing, published under the pseudonym Clanash Farjeon. In 2005 he was recognized with a Jessie Award for his theatre work. He was also awarded the prestigious Vancouver Film Critics Circle honorary award for lifetime achievement. In a public statement, his family described him as a formidable person, but also loving and kind.
