Scope of the Recall
Porsche Cars North America has issued recalls affecting over 18,000 vehicles due to potential safety defects in airbags and rearview cameras. The recall involves the 2022-2023 Porsche Taycan and the 2024-2025 Porsche Macan electric crossovers. The Taycan’s front passenger seat has a manufacturing issue which may deactivate the airbag system, increasing the risk of injury in an accident. Additionally, Macan models suffer from a rearview camera issue caused by a software glitch and faulty camera housing, compromising visibility.

Details on Taycan and Macan Defects
The Taycan recall highlights errors in the occupant classification system within the passenger seat, prompting the airbag to potentially deactivate. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration emphasizes that “An air bag that fails to deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.” Affected Taycan owners can have the affected seat cushion replaced without charge by visiting authorized Porsche dealerships.
The Macan’s issues concern a software error, which can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying properly, potentially allowing moisture intrusion due to a housing defect. A software update and inspection, along with possible replacement of the reverse camera, are planned to correct these issues.
What To Expect
Porsche is notifying affected Taycan and Macan owners, urging them to visit their dealers for necessary repairs. Owners can expect notifications to start arriving in early June.
“The safety of our customers is of the utmost importance. For this reason, we continuously conduct spot checks during production and monitor customer vehicles for irregularities, and react quickly when issues are identified. This is a critical part of a functioning culture of putting safety first,” Porsche said in a statement.
Owners of affected vehicles remain under warranty, and repairs will be conducted at no cost.
