New York’s JFK Airport Targeted by Pro-Palestinian Protesters

( – Pro-Palestinian demonstrators from the group Within Our Lifetime claimed to be victorious on New Year’s Day after holding a “flood JFK for Gaza” protest at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The car caravan of Palestinian flag-waving protestors attempted to disrupt operations by driving on the roads leading to the airport. The New York Police Department proactively warned travelers of the planned disruption, advising that they adjust their schedule to accommodate for potential delays. The group said that it succeeded in shutting down entrances to non-ticket holders and claimed that law enforcement kicked out protestors who were demonstrating in terminal four.

Shortly thereafter, the group directed the caravan to La Guardia International Airport in Queens to try and shut down operations. Travelers were again warned of delays, but the protestors reportedly made no impact on operations. New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, a Republican, blasted the group on X, formerly Twitter, for claiming victory. She posted a photo of the group’s claim of success, rhetorically asking, “Victory over what? Disrupting lives of New Yorkers who are now even more annoyed?” She wrote that the Port Authority Police Department at JFK Airport diverted 100 protestors away from the airport and that the group was unsuccessful in its attempt to enter La Guardia. She mocked the group and sarcastically claimed that their efforts would help free the Palestinians.

Other pro-Palestinian groups attempted to disrupt New Year’s Eve activities in New York City and Boston Massachusetts. NYC Mayor Eric Adams instructed the NYPD to increase its security in Times Square ahead of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” celebration. One protestor was escorted out of Macy’s in Herald Square after setting off a red smoke bomb. Protestors were heard chanting controversial pro-Hamas and pro-Houthi phrases, indicating that they were supportive of terrorism. In Boston, protestors called for a permanent ceasefire to stop the genocide of Palestinians.
