(IntegrityTimes.com) – Just as then-President Trump launched his reelection bid, a controversial group called The Lincoln Project seemingly came out of nowhere. Their goal was to prevent Trump from winning a second term, even if it meant voting for Joe Biden. The group was founded by several individuals, most notably George Conway. His wife Kellyanne Conway worked in the White House as Senior Counselor to the President from 2017 to 2020. Others joined later on in 2020, like Stuart Stevens. Relatively unknown, Stevens previously worked for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign and has consulted for several Republican politicians.
Like the other members of The Lincoln Project, although only two of the original eight founders remain, Stevens is a never-Trumper. Therefore, anyone who supports the former president is guilty by association, according to Stevens. Ohio Republican Senator J.D. Vance, who endorsed Trump for his 2024 presidential bid, spoke on the Senate floor on February 12 in opposition to the $95 billion foreign aid bill. Vance discussed the low birth rates in all NATO countries. He argued that the United States does not “have enough families and children to continue as a nation,” yet Congress is more concerned about taking on problems in countries that are thousands of miles away from the United States.
Vance said that Europe and the United States needed to be rebuilt to be strong enough to spark fear in the eyes of adversaries. Stevens could not stop himself from criticizing Vance for having the audacity to lecture the United States and Europe. He argued in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that Vance was not qualified to have such discussions, given his “highly dysfunctional family of abuse, economic failure, and addiction.” Vance’s book “Hillbilly Elegy” detailed the struggles that his family endured to bring attention to the problems in rural America.
Stevens was immediately met with backlash on X, with most users arguing that Vance was the perfect person to discuss societal decay because of his personal experiences. Stevens’ inability to put aside his hatred for Trump undoubtedly clouded his judgment, resulting in a brutal online reality check.
