Gator’s Unexpected Journey to TikTok Fame in Home Repair

( – Florida TikTok creator Gator has amassed 2.8 million followers by showcasing his helpful home repair hacks. Gator says that his son inspired him to start creating a popular social media platform. His son created a few videos himself and when Gator say they were getting almost a million views, he decided to get the app himself and give it a try.

His first videos were supposed to be light and funny and did well enough that he got up to about 200,000 followers. Then, during a livestream where he was on site repairing a water heater when someone asked about what he was doing, and if he’d be willing to share some of his home repair knowledge. As someone who had spent most of his life doing home repair, he immediately wondered why he hadn’t thought of it before. His first video on that topic was a hack for measuring a board which was so popular it got 20 million views in just 2 days.

The comments on his board measuring video were a stream of requests for more DIY videos. Viewers asked if he could show them how to use a drill, repair a door, or fix a toilet. As someone who had worked in construction starting at the age of 18, he had picked up a lot of these skills and was happy to share his knowledge. Now his videos cover a broad range of practical home maintenance instruction and hacks.

Now that he has so many followers and his videos are getting so many views, he’s started making some money off of his TikTok creator side job. He still works his day job of home repairs on rental units despite his newfound success as an internet sensation. One high point for Gator was when people from WD-40, a multi-use oil used by mechanical and home repair professionals and amateurs since its introduction in the 1950s, reached out to offer him sponsorship. Gator believes the popularity of his videos is because a lot of people who were not taught these skills growing up are now seeking out that training online.
