Ex-Rocker Theo Lengyel Charged with Murder After Woodland Discovery

(IntegrityTimes.com) – On Tuesday January 2,  54-year-old Theobald Lengyel, a former member of the rock band Mr. Bungle, was arrested in connection with the possible murder of his girlfriend, 61-year-old Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani.

Mr. Bungle is an experimental rock bandb started in 1985 by high school friends Mike Patton, Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn and they still tour. In the years since its founding, there have been many other members who have joined and then left the band. When asked about former member Theobald “Theo” Lengyel in an interview in 2005 Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn commented that he had left on bad terms. He added that the band decided to simply move on without him, and they hadn’t spoken since.

While Lengyel’s girlfriend Kamakaokalani had been missing since December 3 the missing persons investigation didn’t even begin until 10 days later. Lengyel was identified as a person of interest in the Kamakaokalani investigation but refused to cooperate with law enforcement.

Her vehicle was found outside Lengyel’s home in El Cerrito, California and he was not the person who reported her missing. Family members of Kamakaokalani reported her missing after they had been unable to contact her for a week. Investigators note that Lengyel apparently drove from El Cerrito to Portland, Oregon following his girlfriend’s disappearance and both of their vehicles are now in police custody.

Lengyel’s arrest came after an unidentified body was found in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, California. Authorities have stated that the remains are still being DNA tested to confirm identity and the cause of death has not yet been confirmed. In a public statement the police said that it was evident early in the investigation that “foul play” was involved in the case.

Lengyel is being held without bail in the Santa Cruz County Jail on first-degree murder charges. He’s also being charged with felony burglary and auto theft. The police have not released further details of the case as they say the investigation is still active. They have offered their condolences to the friends and family of Kamakaokalani despite still waiting on positive identification from the Contra County Coroner’s Office.
