Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Criticizes Biden

( – Harrison Butker, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, has called President Joe Biden “delusional” for advocating for the legalization of abortion despite being a practicing Catholic.

Butker, a three-time Super Bowl winner, slated the president in a heated commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. The 28-year-old kicker also vented frustrations over the Biden administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic along with a number of other cultural and political issues. In his address to the Catholic liberal arts school’s graduates, Butker said the students had seen firsthand the damaging impact on society of “bad leaders” abusing their powers during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The kicker argued that, though the pandemic had a significant impact on the students’ upbringing, it was not unique. Butker added that a “pervasiveness of disorder” was at the root of a number of bad policies varying between euthanasia, surrogacy and abortion in addition to “degenerate cultural values”.

Despite introducing mandatory vaccination policies during the pandemic, Biden has made abortion a focal point of his campaign and adopted a pro-choice position in relation to reproductive rights. Biden’s addressing of the issue in recent speeches, however, and avoiding the use of the word “abortion” has reminded voters of his conflicted views on reproductive rights. In 2022 the president began to focus more on reproductive rights despite making clear that he was opposed to abortion personally and that he did not support federal funding for the procedure. Though the Supreme Court is dominated 6-3 by conservatives, advocates for abortion freedoms and left-wing commentators have questioned whether Biden has done enough to protect reproductive rights.

Butker attacked Biden, who is the second Catholic U.S. president, for making the cross sign while Nikki Fried, the Florida Democratic Party Chair, spoke in favor of abortion in April 2024. Butker said that the apparent contradiction in Biden’s views shows to voters that simply claiming to be Catholic “doesn’t cut it”. The kicker encouraged students to protest against “declining morals” and remind the government that claiming that the “Church is nice” did not grant them a winning proposition.
